Ever since I watched Field Trip episode it was clear Chris Nolan gets ideas from X files but this very one name John Daggett made things crystal clear.
Filed trip is my favorite episode from x-files,you probably never had time to watch X-files unlike me.But you could not have missed Leonardo DiCaprio starer Inception famous for that dream in dream thing.This is the very idea Nolan got from Field trip episode of X-files.
Even if you happened to watch X-files or just hear Mulder & Scully somewhere else you could not have heard the name John Doggett who was main protagonist in X-files S08 to S09. Once again Nolan hints how much he admired X-files as he renamed antagonist Roland Daggett to John Daggett in The Dark Knight Rises.
We all know Christopher Nolan was a little skeptical about making a third entry into the Dark Night franchise and clearly said no to any further sequels.the films were well received by critics and they were blockbuster hits also.Then why would he do that?
May be because he wanted to protect his series from a fate similar to that of X-files which ran from 1993 to 2002 over course of 9 seasons and finally ending leaving behind a large criticism and discussion about the final episode.
I don't see any reason why would he want to rename the antagonist if he is not planning to return to series and set a descendant of John Daggett named Roland to revenge on his behalf?
Off course unless Nolan first heard the name Daggett and he wanted so badly to name the character John instead Roland or may be in his own way Nolan wanted to give us a hint about his favorite TV series.
